The 2011 Glass Collection Cabernet Sauvignon sees 20% new oak. It has an opulent bouquet with small dark cherries, fresh prune and cassis that is nicely defined. The palate is ripe and generous on the entry with grippy tannins, good acidity, but some dryness creeping into what is a very oaky finish. Drink 2014-2022. In previous reports for this publication I have appreciated and commended the wines from Glenelly Estate that was established by the indefatigable May-Eliane de Lencquesaing after she bid adieu to Chateau Pichon-Lalande. However I must confess that the most recent releases did not quite meet my expectations and I found it too easy to pick faults, especially within peer group tastings.

GLENELLY Cabernet SauvignonStellenbosch The Glass Collection 2011
A solid, juicy, fleshy style, with plum and blackberry notes studded with roasted vanilla and licorice accents. Friendly and juicy, but may be a touch jammy for some folks. Drink now. 3,000 cases imported. –JM
